Meet Loren
I'm Loren. In 2018, I started a small custom wood shop, focusing on hardwood epoxy river tables and desks. During this process, I often ended up with smaller wood slabs - pieces too small for furniture but too beautiful to discard.
These leftover pieces sparked an idea: why not create wall art? I experimented with these smaller sections, combining wood and epoxy as I do in my larger pieces. The result was a series of unique, wall-mounted artworks.
Each piece of wall art shares the same craftsmanship as my furniture, just in a more compact form. They offer a way to bring the natural beauty of wood and the artistic flair of epoxy into your space, even if you don't have room for a full-sized table or desk.
These creations give new life to materials that would otherwise go unused, turning them into distinctive decorative pieces for your walls.

The Process
Here's how I transform raw wood into unique, handcrafted wall-art.
-
I carefully source and choose the perfect wood for each piece. Typically wall art is made from leftover table and desk boards.
-
I assess the wood's unique characteristics to determine the final size, shape, and character.
-
I cut, shape, and flatten the wood as needed, then place it in a mold for the epoxy pour.
-
I mix and color the epoxy resin to achieve the desired effect. This part is the most fun!
-
I pour the prepared resin into the mold and let it cure for 1-2 weeks.
-
Once removed from the mold, I further flatten the piece on a router sled.
-
Depending on the desired outcome, I sand the piece starting from 80 grit, sometimes progressing up to 6000 grit for an ultra-smooth finish.
-
I apply the final finishes to protect and enhance the wood's natural beauty.
-
I complete the piece by selecting and attaching french cleats for easy wall-mounting.
-
I step back to admire the finished piece, knowing it will bring joy and beauty to its new home. This moment of satisfaction is what drives my passion for craftsmanship.
Leah and I were lucky enough to be the winning bidders for a piece of art that Loren had donated to a non-profit. It was a beautiful piece with wood against a cobalt blue background. I had seen Loren’s work in pictures before (he does amazing work with wood, i.e., kayaks, canoes, tables) but I’ve never seen any of his work in person. He has a talent for combining different materials and using their natural shapes and contours to create stunning images. The one we bought took my mind to both the sea and the desert. Loren creates beautiful works that will take your mind, and thoughts, to different places.
